Making Decisions

What would you do if you had to decide between being married or remaining single because you had insurance coverage for the baby to be born?
What would you do if you had to decide between being married or remaining single to receive all your pension benefits from your previous spouse?
What would you do if you had to decide between cheating on a test that would increase your pay grade or taking the test fairly and possibly not making the new pay grade?
What would you do if you had to decide between falsifying papers to pass an audit or leave the paperwork alone knowing you would get a lower grade on the audit?
What would you do if you are applying for a job and knew the truthful answer could hinder your chances of getting work?

Jesus said, But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

A disciple of Jesus in all the above cases would seek to do the right thing not the profitable thing. Make your decisions based upon the 10 commandments by asking the following questions.
Will my decision result in having God less than first place in my life?
Will my decision result in making an idol in my life that I worship along with God?
Will my decision result in misusing God’s name?
Will my decision result in not honoring the Lord’s day?
Will my decision result in dishonoring my father or mother?
Will my decision result in committing murder?
Will my decision result in committing adultery?
Will my decision result in stealing?
Will my decision result in lying?
Will my decision result in desiring what belongs to someone else?

If the answer to any of the above questions is Yes, then you are not following Jesus. You are following your own desire. Jesus promises to give us all that we need not want. His way is the way of holiness. I encourage you to be holy and thus ultimately happy.
